As a new watch collector, you may think that you get to the online watch stores and get a timepiece that befits you. Not easy as you think, friend. Nearly every new watch collector makes some mistakes.

This article outlines some of the mistakes that new watch collectors make

Building a collection too quickly

Take time and research about the wristwatch you want to own. Most of the time, watch collectors think they must hold an extensive collection of watches for them to establish their credibility and a name as that “watch guy or gal.” If your goal is to have an extensive collection of watches, then true to your aspirations, you’ll soon have your watch box full of watches, some of which you don’t have an attachment to. Wisdom is that you give yourself time, so you discover the hidden gem that means something to you. If you take time and scrutinize every detail o the watches you want to own, you will be happy even after years of your choices.

Buying an expensive watch too soon

If you’re new to the world of watches, welcome and kindly start with low to mid-range luxury watches. This allows you to choose the watch type that best fits your lifestyle. That approach will save you from spending an enormous amount of money on a wristwatch that you don’t love.

For instance, you may have fallen for Rolex because of the stories and praises you’ve heard about or even because of influence from your peers. But the Rolex watch comes at a price, and so even if you have the money, you have to take some time, study a closer model before going for Rolex. A better alternative would be the sister brand, Tudor. Tudor watches feature the same designs, case materials, bracelets, and dials. But they are less expensive and therefore allow you to try out Rolex’s style without spending a fortune.

Buying a watch on impulse

Walking down the streets or scrolling the online stores, you may be attracted to the eye-catching pieces you come across. But buying the watch impulsely will lead to regrets. Take time, research, and read reviews about every watch.

You may not have the opportunity to wear it, especially when you’re shopping online, but there are genuine reviews that will tell you what you expect from the piece. Where possible, try out the watch to see if it is what you need, the weight, and the appearance upon wearing it. That way, you’re sure of what you’re buying and for what purpose.

Assuming that price goes with quality

The price of the watch does not necessarily determine quality. A watch may be pretty expensive but of a lesser quality compared to others. Brands sometimes sell their watches expensively to create an impression of luxury when in essence; they’ve no value to offer.

To be safe when choosing watches for your collection, go for brands that don’t have counterfeits. Tudor and Rolex are such good examples. These are made in-house, and thus you can be sure of excellence and authenticity. They are expensive but worth your money.
