Top Ten iPhone Apps for 2020

It took us a while, not surprising given how many apps there are, but we found what we think are the top apps for 2020, ten apps that cover a range of activities and offer great value.

  1. Google Chrome

Safari is a great browser, but Google Chrome is better in virtually every way. You can sync across all devices that use Chrome, so no matter where you are, what device you are using, you can access your bookmarks and history. Chrome remembers everything, including autocomplete in the search bar, tabs, and even securely stores your passwords. It is completely free to use and easy to install.

  1. Facebook++

There’s no doubt that Facebook is the number one social media site in the world, and if you haven’t got it on your iPhone, you are one of the rare few. Facebook is no longer just about connecting with friends. You’ll find local marketplaces, videos, news, games, and much more. Plus, loads of other apps and websites offer Facebook as an option for logging in, which makes registering for these services dead simple. You can keep in touch with friends and family, see their updates, and even use the companion app, Messenger, to talk to them via video, text, or phone call. It is, quite simply, the best social experience on the internet today, and having it on your mobile means, you can take it wherever you go. You can download Facebook++ from the AltStore app.

  1. WhatsApp++

WhatsApp is one of the top messaging apps in the world, great for those who are on Wi-Fi a lot and don’t have enough data to text away non-stop. With WhatsApp, you can send text messages, videos, photos, audio notes, and more. It is packed with cool features, and when you register, you get your own phone number – call anyone else on WhatsApp, anywhere in the world, for free. It’s also a great choice for business users as they can stay connected to their customers all the time. If you just love to be connected to your friends and family all the time, love chatting way, it’s worth downloading. You can download WhatsApp++ from CokerNutX app.

  1. Grindr

Another popular social networking app, this one is for gay, lesbian, trans, and bi people. It makes use of your iPhone location to pinpoint app members in your vicinity, allowing you to chat, send photos, even meet up if you get on. It isn’t all about dating; it’s about making friends with like-minded people, and there’s even a group chat feature where you can all get together.

  1. NYT Cooking

Believe it or not, the New York Times isn’t all about the latest news, although it is a pretty good source for that. The app offers thousands of different recipes for you to try, and more are added on a weekly basis. It has a powerful system in place for filtering so you can find recipes based on the type of cuisine, diet, prep method, ingredients, and much more. You can mark the recipes you had a go at, what you thought of them, and you can access your own profile and recipes list from any device.

  1. Xbox/PlayStation/Nintendo Switch Online

No, this isn’t one fantastic app all rolled into one! Rather than separating them, we opted to lump all three apps together. First off, Microsoft has a cool companion app for the Xbox, which allows you to control your console using your iPhone. You can control your media, type messages, and other tasks, and when you leave your console, you can keep in touch with your friends via the app.

You can’t control your PlayStation with the companion app, unfortunately, but it does still provide you with a link to your games world when you are not at home on your console. You can see all your trophies, send messages, even look through the PlayStation Store, and you will find some games that have the functionality that allows for a second screen, deepening your gaming experience.

If you own a Nintendo Switch and play a lot of games online, then you need the Switch Online App. The app offers voice chat, the ability to check on services specific to your games when you are not near your console, and you can see videos and images from game titles.

  1. Strafe Esports

If esports are your thing and you like to keep an eye on the latest scores and news, this app is ideal. It offers news from lots of different esports, such as Rocket League, Hearthstone, and League of Legends, and offers you the ability to gamify your experience by offering a betting system that puts your game predictions against those from other people.

  1. Yelp

Yelp is an incredibly popular app for helping you find out what’s nearby. You can find restaurants, takeaways, local attractions, contractors, and much more. With more than 200 million businesses in their database, there is little you cant find on this app, and you can even book takeout or a reservation form in the app.

  1. YouTube++

The number one video-sharing app in the world, YouTube is a must-have for anyone who loves to watch videos. Owned by Google, the app offers millions of different videos, from vloggers to how-to videos, unboxing videos, music movies, gaming videos, and so much more. Used by millions of people the world over, it is certainly popular, and you can use it for free. There is, however, the option of subscribing to YouTube Premium at $12 a month, and, for that, you get to download your playlists, watch offline, remove the ads, and play videos on your iPhone screen when it’s locked. You can download YoutUbe++ from the TutuApp store.

  1. Disney Plus

Disney Plus is a relatively new streaming service, launched in November 2019. In just one day, more than 10 million people signed up to the service, and that number expands daily. It does cost $6.99 a month, but you can take advantage of a free trial to see what you think of it first. And with a subscription to Verizon, you get a year free on Disney Plus too. So, what do you get for your money? For starters, you can watch more than 500 of the best Disney movies ever released. You can also stream more than 7500 episodes of the most popular Disney TV shows, including some of the very best classics. You can watch the Star Wars movies, Pixar movies, The Simpsons, The Mandalorian, Marvel, and much more. The app is improving all the time, with recent additions being a pause/resume button. New content is always being added, and, for fans of Disney movies and shows, this is the very best app to have.

So, ten cool apps (12 if you count the gaming console companion apps) that you can find in the iOS app store today. Yes, this is just a drop in the ocean compared to what the store offers, but they are a great starting point, and we didn’t just pick them out of thin air. We did careful research to find apps that we feel offer the best features and the best value for all types of users.

Some are free, some require payment and others offer in-app purchases, but all offer great value. Don’t forget, though. If you share your device with others, you must consider whether you want them to have free rein on the in-app purchases. If you don’t, set a password and keep it secret, or add your fingerprint for authorization. You can also just switch them off altogether on your device.

Give these apps a go and see how you get on. Even if you don’t like them, they may just give you ideas on other apps to try.
