What I’m Most Looking Forward To This Winter

Blankets and Warm Drinks

With the cold’s slow but sure arrival, there are few things I’m looking forward to more than snuggling up in a blanket and drinking mug after mug of warm, marshmallow-rich hot cocoa.

There’s nothing quite like trying new beverages each year and turning them into annual winter staples. There’s also something so exciting about adding my own unique flair to different recipes—for example, this December, I’m going to use white chocolate, peppermint, and cinnamon in some of my Christmas desserts!

Anybody in For a Quick Sled?

Sledding has been one of my favorite hobbies since I was a girl, and it is an absolutely perfect addition to my winter family vacations.

It’s not only great exercise—all of the pushing and pulling really works those arms and glutes! —but also a wonderful way to catch a safe, easy thrill. Now that I have my own family, sledding will be a tradition we look forward to whenever the clouds roll in.

If there’s a lot of snow this year—which I’m hoping for—you’ll want to wear a few layers that’ll keep you padded nicely in case of a tumble. It’s also a good idea to sled while it’s snowing; it’s so fun to stick your tongue out and catch all of those drifting flakes! And how can I forget the pleasure of returning home and warming back up with a long shower?

Wearing Bulkier, More Comfortable Clothes

I can’t wait to pull out all of my bigger and far more comfortable clothes. I can kill two birds with one stone, too, because I’m planning on getting a neck lift that, without longer winter collars, would probably be quite obvious.

By the time spring rolls in, I’ll be feeling so much more confident about my appearance, and nobody will even notice that I had work done! As someone who has always loved cooler temperatures, winter is the ideal time to conceal my healing process with a scarf and coat.

All of the Festive Lights

Winter wouldn’t be nearly as enjoyable without the holidays and festive decorations!

I love to drive around my neighborhood and admire the lights, wreaths, snowmen, and reindeer mannequins that people spend days arranging. This is one of the only times of year when holiday charm is not only valued, but encouraged!

I love to gather my husband and kids and decorate my own house with neat fixtures and unique designs. As a creative person, I’m always on the hunt for innovative ways to express myself, and this year, I’m going to buy some bright new lights and props for the front lawn!

Playing in the Snow with My Family

I may be an adult, but I still love to play in the snow. And, now that I have kids, we get to experience that joy together!

For the last few years, we’ve made snow angels and all different sizes of snowmen around the house (complete, of course, with ridiculously long carrot noses and tiny branches for arms).

There are simply so many possibilities when there’s snow all around, and this year, my kids and I are going to build the biggest snowman we’ve ever made—six feet tall! We might just need some help from my husband.

Enjoying a Warm Campfire with S’mores

My perfect winter night: a hot firepit, gooey s’mores, and long, cheerful stories with the people I love. After all, what’s more relaxing than huddling over an open fire, drinking sweet beverages, and chatting about our wishes for the new year?

I’m also ready to engage with nature by chopping my own wood and roasting marshmallows in the backyard. I just know that this is going to be one of the best winters yet, and it’s so reassuring to know that I’ll be happy and healthy for a time I so deeply cherish!
