Leia As A Jedi

Princess Leia, as played by Carrie Fisher, is one of the most iconic figures in the history of pop culture. But, what do you need to know about her time in the Jedi Order?

Well, we can help you out. Read on to find out the history of Princess Leia as a Jedi.

Princess Leia Before Becoming a Jedi

Along with her brother, Luke, Princess Leia was born on Polis Massa in the year 3,634. Her parents were  Padmé Amidala, who was a Naboo Senator, and Anakin Skywalker (otherwise known as Darth Vader). Unfortunately, her mother dies in childbirth, and her father had already fallen in with the dark side.

Afterwards, Leia was separated from her brother and adopted by Senator Bail Organa and Queen Breha Organa. She became a senator at the age of eighteen and joined the rebellion. Princess Leia is captured during a rebel mission, which sets off the series of events that lead to her reuniting with her brother, Luke.

These events are portrayed in the first Star Wars movie (A New Hope). That’s also when she meets Han Solo, whom she eventually marries and has at least one child with. Leia, Han, and Luke, along with the drones R2-D2 and C3PO, escape the Death Star after Obi-Wan Kenobi sacrifices himself.

In The Empire Strikes Back, Leia and Han grow closer while they’re in hiding abroad the Millenium Falcon. They are eventually turned into Bobba Fett by Lando Calrissian.

Leia tells Han she loves them while they are in captivity, but Lando saves Leia and Chewbacca. Once Luke has been rescued, Lando and Chewbacca go to find Han. In the next movie, Return of The Jedi, Leia attempts to rescue Han herself but is caught and once again captured.

Luke eventually frees them, and Leia kills Jabba the Hut. Han, Luke, Leia, and Chewbacca then go to destroy a shield generator that’s protecting the Death Star. Darth Vader is killed by the Emperor while trying to protect Luke, and the group manages to bring down the shield. This allows the Death Star to be destroyed.

Is Princess Leia Force Sensitive?

Princess Leia is a force-sensitive human. In the original trilogy, Princess Leia’s connection with the Force is presented only in passing. Princess Leia’s relationship with the Force is unique since it’s seen as related to her empathy.

Much of Princess Leia’s use of the Force is shown in Star Wars comic books and novels, such as Shattered Empire. In the original movies, she uses the Force in order to sense Han Solo.

The lack of focus on Princess Leia’s force usage is actually discussed in the book Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge – Black Spire. This book takes place after the events of The Last Jedi.

It’s said that Princess Leia is so good at using the Force that she actively works not to use it so that she doesn’t accidentally affect the democratic process during her work as a senator.

Princess Leia uses the Force several times over the course of the movie The Last Jedi. When the Dreadnaught attempts to attack the Raddus, Leia senses their move and helps the ship avoid the attack.

When the ship attacks again, Leila senses her son Kylo Ren (whose real name is Ben Solo) abroad the opponent ship. Unfortunately, the ship still attacks and Leia is sucked out into space.

But, she manages to save herself by using the Force to pull herself back onto the ship. Then, Leia uses the Force when she senses Luke becoming one with the living Force.

Lastly, Princess Leia uses the Force just before she passes away. She uses the Force to get through to her son before he can kill Rey. This uses up the rest of her energy and ends with her death. But, it does pull her son away from the dark side, effectively sacrificing her life for his.

Is Princess Leia a Jedi?

Princess Leia does eventually become a Jedi. In deleted scenes from The Rise of Skywalker, it’s revealed that Luke trained Leia to use the Force.

While Leia is referred to as a Jedi Master, it is believed that she did not actually complete her training. Leia left training in order to try and save her son, Kylo Ren, along with protecting the galaxy as a whole.

During the movie the Rise of Skywalker, Leila is shown helping Rey through her own Jedi training. More of Princess Leia’s history as a Jedi was planned to be included in the more recent Star Wars movies. However, the unfortunate passing of Carrie Fisher made exploring more of Princess Leia’s story impossible.

There are also things you may want to know about Leia Organa lightsaber. Luke ends up keeping Leia’s lightsaber after she leaves her training. He eventually gives the lightsaber to Rey so that Rey can use it to help defeat Palpatine.

After the battle, Rey hides Luke and Leia’s lightsabers at Luke’s former home on Tatooine. She then sees the ghosts of Luke and Leia, as they have become one with the Force and will, in some ways, live on forever.
