What You Need to Know About Fortnite Skins

Looking to up the ante of your Fortnite skin collection? Then look no further as we’ll tell you all there is to know about Fortnite skins and more! Seeing as Fortnite is a free-to-play game you can enjoy without having to cough up a single cent, Epic Games places microtransactions to make money off it. These microtransactions vary, but it all centers around one point: skins. Skins are the backbone of microtransactions in Fortnite. From back bling, emotes, dances, to actual skins, there’s a lot that you can purchase in the Fortnite item shop. V-Bucks are the currency used to purchase these cosmetic items. These can also be used to get the current season’s battle pass where you can level up the pass to get exclusive items from that season. With a whole slew of Fortnite skins coming and going from the Fortnite item shop, it’s hard to pick which ones to get and which ones to leave behind.

  • Fortnite Skins Can’t Be Traded

Skins and whatnot can often be traded in online free-to-play games. That’s not the case for Fortnite though. If you want to get a skin that’s available for a limited time only, then you’d best buy it before it disappears in the Fortnite item shop because there’s no telling when it’ll be up for purchase again—if at all. This is because Fortnite skins can’t be traded from one person to another. The skins are bound to one’s account, making it impossible to transfer a skin to another person’s account. This means that if you want to get a rare skin that you know is never going to appear in rotation with the other skins, you’ll have to buy an actual Fortnite account that has that certain skin. And even then, you can only play using that account if you want to use that said cosmetic item. There’s no telling when Epic will be enabling the option of trading cosmetics like skins and paragliders, but we think the possibility of it actually happening is zero. Epic needs to make money and what better way to do so than forcing players to pay for the skin that they want on the spot?

  • Some Are Rarer Than Others

All Fortnite skins aren’t equal. In fact, some are much rarer than others and can cost up to thousands of dollars. We’re talking about skins like Recon Expert, Renegade Raider, and Skulltrooper, which are deemed to be some of the rarest skins in the entirety of Fortnite’s inventory. There’s only a very slim chance of nabbing these straight off the item shop since the skins there are often in rotation. But if you manage to be at the right place and the right time just like when Epic stealth dropped the Recon Expert skin back in May 2020, then be sure to have enough V-Bucks for it. Be warned if you’re buying a rare skin from the aftermarket though, as they can cost a pretty penny.

  • Don’t Forget Back Bling and Paragliders

Customization isn’t limited to normal skins. There are back blings and paragliders too! Back blings are basically the backpacks that you wear in the game. They’re not as noticeable compared to actual skins, but believe it or not, there’s a market for them. Some of the rarest back bling include the Galactic Disc, Penguin/Insignia, Rust Bucket, and Black Shield. The Galactic Bling, in particular, is one that you can only attain if you purchased a Samsung Galaxy Note 9 or Galaxy Tab S4 back in 2018. Meanwhile, Paragliders or gliders for short, are what we’d like to refer to as the unsung hero of skins. After all, what’s the first thing you see when you jump off the battle bus? Rare gliders include the Rainbow Rider, Aerial Assault, Double Helix, and Mako. Gliders aren’t as accessible compared to back blings and actual skins. Most of the time the only way to get a new glider skin is to get the seasonal battle pass.

And those are all the things you’ll ever need to know about Fortnite skins! Skins for Fortnite weapons and characters can always be found in the Fortnite item shop, so it’s best to at least take a peek at what they have for sale periodically since Epic always juggles between the skins to take out from the vault.

Do you collect these skins that Epic Games offers? What are some of the rare ones that you have in your collection? Let us know by leaving a comment or two!
